Comparing Aer Lingus Saver, Smart and Flex

Choose on total cost and ticket conditions, not the label alone.

This is not Aer Lingus customer service. Independent service fees may apply.

The short answer

Compare the fare shown for your actual route using bags, seats and change or cancellation terms. Fare names do not mean every extra is included, and a flexible option does not automatically promise a cash refund.

Make a like-for-like comparison

For each option, write down the price with the bags and seats you expect to buy. Then consider the chance that your dates will move. A lower price today can be less useful if it leaves out an extra you already know you need.

Read the cancellation outcome

Check whether an eligible cancellation would produce cash, a voucher or only a limited refund. Read the deadline and any deductions. Avoid treating “change permitted” and “refundable” as interchangeable promises.

Ask what a change still costs

Even when a change charge is waived, the replacement flight can have a different fare. Ask the issuer how it will quote a future date change. Do not assume the current difference between two fares represents the price of every future change.

Use a personal decision rule

Example: if your return date is uncertain, compare the additional fare cost with the restrictions you would accept. If you are certain of the dates, concentrate on the complete trip price and included extras. These are planning examples, not a prediction of savings.

Common questions

Which fare is always best?

There is no universal choice. Compare the exact ticket conditions against the trip you need.

Does Flex always mean cash back?

Do not infer that from the name. Read the current refund conditions for the purchased fare.

Can I compare just the headline price?

Add the extras you need first so that the totals describe the same journey.
