The short answer
Your baggage allowance depends on the ticket and route. Check cabin baggage and checked baggage separately, then read the allowance shown for every flight. A regional connection or separately purchased onward flight deserves its own check.

Read the allowance, not just the fare name
Find the baggage details in the booking confirmation. Record the number of pieces, maximum weight, size limits and any paid extras. A cabin bag is not the same purchase as a checked bag, and a weight allowance is not permission to bring unlimited pieces.
One itinerary or separate tickets?
Write down whether the onward flight was booked with the transatlantic flight or in a different transaction. Ask the issuer how baggage is handled for that exact itinerary. At check-in, look at the destination printed on the bag tag and ask staff if anything is unclear.
Pack for the handover
Keep essential medication, travel documents and items you need during the journey accessible in an appropriate personal bag. Check official restrictions for batteries, liquids and special equipment. Measure the bag including its protruding parts rather than relying on a retail label.
A common source of confusion
A 10 kg allowance does not always mean a bag may be taken into the cabin without an extra purchase. On applicable European fares, inclusion or payment determines the cabin option. See the current Regional guide for the March 2026 update and check your booking before departure.
Aer Lingus baggage: check the North America allowance
The airline’s North America guidance lists a 10 kg cabin bag and a small personal item, subject to the stated conditions and available stowage. Verify checked-bag inclusion separately in your purchased fare. If the journey includes a partner airline or a stopover in Ireland, ask the issuer to confirm the allowance for the full itinerary before paying for extra bags.
Special items need a separate check
Sports equipment, musical instruments and mobility equipment are not interchangeable with an ordinary suitcase. Before booking, write down the item’s dimensions and weight and check the airline’s dedicated rules. For travel with children, review the stroller or car-seat arrangements for each flight. Use the family and official-support guides linked below for the right starting point.
Common questions
Does the cheapest fare always include a checked bag?
No. Read the baggage line for the specific fare and add any required bag to your comparison.
Can this phone line locate a delayed bag?
No. Use the official airline baggage report and tracing tools linked in our missing-baggage guide.
Where should I verify bag dimensions?
Use the airline’s current baggage page and the allowance in your booking. Check the operating carrier if a partner flies a segment.
